MiraColt Movement Biomechanics

MiraColt Movement Biomechanics

Movement That Goes Beyond Rocking

A horse’s walk is more complex than it may seem at first. As the horse walks, its back moves simultaneously forwards and backwards, side to side, and up and down. At the same time, it tilts and rotates around three axes. It is the combination of all these movements that creates the characteristic rhythm experienced by the rider throughout the whole body.

Six Degrees of Freedom

MiraColt was designed to replicate this complex movement pattern. Its seat does not move in just one direction, but across all six degrees of freedom - in three directions and around three axes. These individual components occur simultaneously, combining into one smooth, continuous cycle. A direct comparison over a single gait cycle shows how closely MiraColt’s movement replicates that of a real horse.

What Makes MiraColt Unique?

It is MiraColt’s ability to combine all six components of movement into one smooth, consistently repeating cycle that sets it apart from simple simulators and rocking devices. The result is a technology that replicates the unique three-dimensional movement of a horse’s walk in a compact, easy-to-use device.

Born from a personal need to find a more accessible way.

We are two founders, a married couple, and above all, parents whose journey began with a personal need. When our daughter was born with a rare genetic condition, therapy became a natural part of our everyday lives, including hippotherapy.

It soon became clear that hippotherapy comes with practical limitations. Options within a reasonable travelling distance are often limited, while availability may depend on weather conditions, from winter weather to high summer temperatures, as well as on the capacity of hippotherapy centres. For some clients, age or weight, fear of animals, or fear of heights may create additional barriers.

The search for a more flexible and accessible way to experience the benefits of equine movement brought us to MiraColt, an equine movement simulator developed by Chariot Innovations in Texas, USA. What started as an effort to find a solution for our own family gradually grew into the belief that this technology could benefit many others – children, adults, therapists, healthcare professionals, and institutions.

A partnership with Chariot Innovations followed, with a shared vision of bringing MiraColt to Europe.

At the heart of Motion Bridge is the belief that the benefits of equine movement should not depend on access to a horse, location, weather, or distance. Our goal is to connect science, care, and movement while creating new opportunities for people to experience movement based on the principles of a horse’s natural gait.
